Concrete Jungle | Nautical Edition

This Concrete Jungle version came about when I had the idea to use up scraps instead of yardage. I was curious to see how to make this quilt scrappy without being overwhelming. (This is the throw size).

I first dug through my stash to find the perfect fabric pull. A lot of these fabrics are from Cotton + Steel S.S. Bluebird line, which is several years old. I knew I needed an accent color, but I didn’t want to go with the traditional red, that felt too Americana for me and not the vibe I wanted. When I spotted that tiny bit of orange anchor fabric in my stash, I knew it would be the right move.

Concrete Jungle uses 7 colors. I used a single fabric for some of the colors to keep some consistency to the quilt and keep it from getting too busy.

The best thing with Concrete Jungle is that once everything is cut, the quilt comes together crazy fast!

Almost as if it was meant to be, I found an orange and blue stripe fabric in my stash to use as the binding. I bound it using the big-stitch hand-binding method.

The backing is an Ikea duvet cover and it is crazy soft. You can find out more about using duvets and sheets as backings.

For the quilting, I used a design from my WALK book by Jacquie Gering. I love this book for all the different walking-foot quilting designs! (See my full review here). I thought I was being super clever, quilting it on the back using the gingham backing as my guide… until I got through one whole direction and realized that my backing wasn’t squares – they’re rectangles! So I decided not to add any more quilting, I really like it the way it is anyway, so, happy accident!

Concrete Jungle is my latest pattern, available in my shop! It comes in 5 sizes: baby, lap, throw, twin, and bed!
