Ruby Star Society released their Spring 2020 collections recently and oh boy are they beautiful. Among them is Whatnot by Rashida Coleman Hale, which I was lucky enough to use for an Inkling quilt!
Inkling is now available in the shop! Find it in both pdf and paper versions.

Whatnot will ship to quilt shops in the fall. I love the bright, cheery colors and that some of the prints are almost an i-spy game for those of us who have long been fans of Rashida’s fabrics. There’s little motifs from her previous collections sprinkled in – the shirts from Kujira & Star, the bananas from Lagoon, and the oxford shoes from Panorama, among many others.

Since Inkling has some bigger fabric cuts, it is a perfect pattern to display the fun fabrics in Whatnot! I used white on white Zip! fabric for the background. Using a directional background fabric brought its own challenges but I’m glad to say I made all the blocks without once twisting around a directional print. Phew!
This version of Inkling is the small throw size, clocking in at 48″ x 64″.

I handed off this quilt top to my longarmer Cathy Roeder, who did such a fantastic job on it! I love, love, love the quilting motif we chose, and I’m so glad I was able to pass this one off to her to quilt!
Check out the video below and be sure to peruse the entire Spring look book. There’s FOUR Patchwork & Poodles patterns in there, can you find them all??
