My friend Amanda from Broadcloth Studio is known for her witty and fun quilty quizzes she posts to her site. So when she asked me if I wanted to participate in the next one I answered with an enthusiastic “yes!”. This seemed like a good occasion to create a new quilt pattern, so here we are! Meet Linear!
Linear is a mini quilt & pillow pattern for sale in my shop. It creates a 20″ quilt or throw pillow and the front only needs two 1/3 yd cuts! It is the perfect project to use up some scraps!

Jason has a lot of opinions about quilts – he prefers solids and really doesn’t want more than two colors. This pattern seemed like the perfect opportunity to make something he would really like. His favorite color is orange, so naturally that’s what I did!
Although written for two cuts of fabric, you could definitely go scrappy with Linear! For the back of the pillow I quilted a simple panel using up the leftover fabrics I had. I love the rugby stripe effect it created! The whole front and back of the pillow is hand quilted with Aurifil 12 weight thread in #2021 and #1104. Many thanks to Jason who told me I absolutely needed orange 12 weight thread at Quiltcon back in February. Without his guidance, I wouldn’t have had it in my collection (ha!). I contrasted the thread to the fabric colors and I love the pop it adds to the pattern! To turn the mini quilt into a pillow I used my free pillow tutorial.

I started a second Linear quilt in Riley Blake Designs Blossom basics in black and white. The jury is still out on what this will become, but my Instagram poll revealed a lot of you want to see it turned into a tote bag. (Second place finish goes to zipper pouch). It will be fun to get creative with this one!
